ZEBETA (bisoprolol fumarate) is a synthetic, beta1-selective adrenoceptor blocking agent. The S (-) enantiomer is responsible for most of activity. Bisoprolol is indicated in the management of high blood pressure. It may be used alone or in along with other BP drugs.
The dose of Bisoprolol must be individualized to the needs of the patient. The usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily. If 5 mg is inadequate, the dose may be increased to 10 mg and then upto to 20 mg once daily.
Those with hepatitis or cirrhosis or have decreased creatinine clearance. (Less than 40 mL/min), the initial daily dose should be 2.5 mg. It is not to be given on persons undergoing dialysis.
Side effects include increased sweating, joint pain, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and low heart rate, loss of sleep, diarrhea, nausea, breathlessness, pharyngitis, running nose and chest pain.
