Retrovir (Zidovudine) is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) used to manage Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection (HIV). It is a thymidine analogue which interferes in DNA synthesis of retroviruses. It should not be given alone but in conjunction with a NNRTI and another NRTI. It is also used to prevent the transmission of HIV to the fetus during pregnancy.

Dose is normally 300mg twice daily along with lamuvidine 150mg and either nevirapine 200mg or effavirenz 600mg.
